Welcome to the Glade Community Historical Society home page.
GCHS, Inc. was established on November 5, 2011 to preserve the history of our rural communities and to gather stories and preserve artifacts for the purpose of teaching future generations about the contributions of their ancestors.
Glade, Pine Log and Garfield, Arkansas are located in the northwest corner of the beautiful Ozark Mountains near the Pea Ridge battleground and Walmart.
These communities were settled in the late 1800's by people searching for a better life. Indians on the Trail of Tears passed through Garfield, and people from Kentucky, Tennessee and other states searched for land and settled in these mountains to eke out a living.
The Glade Community Historical Society, Inc, a 501(c)3 Charity, was established to gather and research stories of its people and to return and renovate the old Glade Post Office located next to the Coal Gap School which is on the National Register.
Jellies, yard sales, auctions and soup suppers help fund the Glade Post Office Project. And, a big thank you to the Benton County Historical Preservation Commission for their help in funding the project.
Join GCHS and attend our meetings and meet new people. Volunteer to help with our many sales projects or to help with the post office project. Or, listen to an old timer's story and record it. And, find historical pictures and contribute them to the organization .
